Where did the idea for Swop-o-nomics come from?

You may or may not have read a paper, seen the news, heard the radio or talked to a taxi driver lately... but apparently we're in a bit of an economic hiccup at the moment.

We started by thinking what the root of the problem is - Money, it's hard to come by these days.

It's pretty clear that something has to change, so we decided to take a new approach to the oldest of ideas, barter. Thats when the idea for Swop-o-nomics was born.

 

Why is barter better than plain old cash?

The simple answer is, it's not. Barter came long before money, as a system it did the job, but at the time had some drawbacks. People had to carry all their livestock and grain with them to the markets because they didn't know what the other person was going to want... so money became a tool to facilitate barter.

That was then, this is now. With the internet we are now able to overcome the problems that all but put an end to it. Swop-o-nomics can connect people with counter parties much more efficiently than in those days and so gives you an alternative to the current 'cash only' system.
