As we mentioned on the front page, we are delighted to announce that we are joining forces with Nurture Development to help local economies.

We are opening our framework to the communities they are working with to help connect those who can benefit from barter at a community level.

Nurture Development are international experts in Asset Based Community Development (ABCD), a system which helps local economies grow by using the resources they already have - from the natural resources to the skills of local people and businesses. As you can see, right up our street!

Here's a note from their Managing Director, Cormac Russell.

Everywhere we turn these days we’re told that we are ‘better together’. This statement is as true today as it was a year or two ago, but these days it’s a whole lot easier to get widespread agreement for such sentiments.

And while we might all agree with the need to pull together to survive the chill winds of economic change, we still need to figure out how we are going to reconnect, build stronger communities, and get with this ‘better together’ vibe.

Nurture Development has spent the last 13 years working with people in organisations and communities all over the world helping them to figure out how to foster such connections. We strongly believe in people power, and the need to focus on the half full, rather than the half empty part of the glass. We also recognise that people don’t connect in the same way that they did in times past.

For these reasons I am delighted to be teaming up with Swop-o-nomics -a new web-based platform for identifying, connecting and mobilising assets-to promote social and economic exchange in every community in Ireland, and beyond. The Swop-o-nomics website has been developed by a group of savvy Irish social entrepreneurs, who see beyond hard currency to the most valuable commodity of all…us! I am proud to name them as an important strategic partner in promoting healthy, vibrant and prosperous communities.
